Dancing on Coals: A Memoir of an Overperformer
Dancing on Coals: A Memoir of an Overperformer, describes a performance artist’s madcap race to enlightenment or fame, whichever comes first. Fleeing the Bahamas after the colonial government is overthrown, I was locked away in a Swiss finishing school before emerging to become an avant-garde theater artist dedicated to disrupting the standards of traditional theater. In a quirky, satirical voice, I describe the roller coaster ride between my misbegotten spiritual aims and my vain artistic endeavors, which cross-pollinate into a jerry-rigged serenity riddled with dark humor. A cross between Operating Instructions and Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, Dancing on Coals is ultimately a love story, invoking the tenderness of relationships that founder on our doorsteps as we hurtle past them in search of unattainable glory.
“Moore presents an account of quite a notable life spiked with sharp, often funny dialogue… and those taking note will walk away with some wisdom. A wise, insightful, and always-entertaining recollection of a journey of self-discovery.”

Spencer’s Pond
Spencer’s Pond is the story of Jules, a smart-mouthed teenager from Manhattan who discovers her sexuality one summer at a rural pond. Launching into a relationship with a neighboring boy, Jules is caught in a downward spiral which explodes in an unpredictable act of violence. Even as her world is shattered, Jules finds strength in the unlikely family of eccentrics who love her. In the wry, wise-cracking voice of adolescence, Jules describes her mother, Judith, a libidinous hack writer with a mysterious past, her mother’s boyfriend, Shiva, a manic-depressive snake-oil salesman, and her godfather, Malcolm, an elderly gay poet who provides Jules with the wisdom she needs to survive. In the end, Jules reminds us of what is good in us, what retains hope even under fire. Jules is the adolescent soul in all of us that struggles against society’s rules to stay cocky, to go wild, to be real.
